Vocal Massage

A Vocal Massage Therapy Treatment is ideal for singers, actors, public speakers, teachers, comedians, all professional voice users.

There are many muscles that are used in voice production and just like every other muscle in the body, they can get tired and overused.

Vocal Massage Therapy treatments involve massage and manipulation of all areas involved in voice production & the respiratory system, including techniques to improve your posture & vocal health. It is a unique treatment, tailored to the individual’s needs to assist and enhance:

  • Vocal endurance
  • Vocal range
  • Lung capacity
  • Recovery rate & healing after injury

By releasing tension in the neck, larynx, tongue, jaw, shoulders, diaphragm, intercostals & upper chest areas, we aim to leave you feeling more free & open, with a deeper connection to the muscles involved in breathing, speaking& singing.

A full vocal massage treatment lasts about 45 minutes, plus consultation time and is carried out at our clinic in Orpington.

If you are on tour, we may be able to come to the theatre/venue you are working in, subject to the Theatre Manager’s approval. Please contact us to discuss your requirements further.

All vocal massages are carried out by Lucy, the owner of LHT Wellness.  Lucy is a qualified sports massage therapist and has been training in vocal massage for the last 5 years.  Lucy attended a course in Vocal massage with Active Health Group five years ago and has since assisted in the teaching of this course. As part of her vocal massage development, Lucy has shadowed Jacob Lieberman (osteopath), in his clinic in London, while carrying out larynx manipulation and has completed a 2-day course run by Jacob in larynx manipulation for muscle tension dysphonia.  Lucy has also completed a PGCert, with distinction, in professional practice, focusing her research on the voice and the use of vocal massage and is currently continuing that research in a Voice Pedagogy Masters.  Research carried out by Lucy includes; Fascia and Myofascial Release; the Treatment’s Effects on the Vocal System, A Study of Posture and it’s Effects on the Vocal Client, and, A Literature Review of the Effect of Massage and Manipulation on Musculature of the Vocal System.

Since beginning her training into Vocal Massage, Lucy has developed a unique treatment that involves treating the body as a whole in order to assist the vocal massage client achieve their goal.

Over the last few years we have treated amateur and professional singers, including Russell Watson, the People’s Tenor. Here are a few words from just some of our happy clients…

“Brilliant Vocal Massage – really recommend it to any singers, actors, teachers or those who use their voice to make their living … Or anyone who talks a lot.”
Diane Ebden

“Just a little while ago I had the most wonderful “vocal massage”, specifically worked for the opening and relaxation of the throat and chest. To say it was amazing does not do it justice, I was singing everyday after the treatment, either rehearsing or performing and the benefits were fantastic, I was very focused on how open and free my singing was. I had to use a mic in performance and when using a mic I tend to concentrate on support from the diaphragm even more as to not rely on the mic for support and I believe this treatment was very helpful for that. Excellent.”
Gari Glaysher

“Thank you Lucy for my fantastic vocal massage which focused on relaxing and opening my throat and chest. I feel much more open and free when using my higher register. The massage techniques used were explained excellently before application and I even learnt a few things which I didn’t know before! Highly recommended for any singers and people who rely on their voice. I look forward to the next session!”
Joby Morris

“A gazillion shows so far in the last 2 weeks but a session with @vocalmassage has left me feeling like I can get to the end of this stint.”
Greg Barnett

“It’s been a long old week but we’ve done it! Big shout out to @vocalmassage who’ve rescued my voice for the last show of the year!”
James Ballanger (Kinky Boots)

The cost for this full treatment is £70.

I rely on my treatment from ER Health and Fitness to keep working. As a self employed Driving Instructor I need my wits about me, without the pain relief gained from my massage sessions, I certainly would not be able to work.
John, Orpington

Great, Fantastic pamper nights for me and the girls. All of us are nurses and we know we are being treated well. Always a smile on our faces when we know Lucy/ER Health and Fitness is giving us the treatment!
Tracy, Orpington

I have been a client of Lucy's for a couple of years now. I originally went to her as I was suffering from various sports injuries. Not only did she help me but our regular treatments have allowed me to continue as an active sportsman even though I'm nearing 50. I would highly recommend her.

I have been seeing Lucy for over a year now which started with a sport injury but I have carried on with her as I love my one hour of unwinding and relaxing.

A few years ago my personal trainer introduced me to Lucy, to treat a niggling sports injury. I was so impressed with the initial treatments, advice and support provided by Lucy that I now see her (or Tom) on a very regular basis (approx. every 4-6 weeks).  I view my treatments as an integral part of maintaining a healthy, fit and stress free body. I have no hesitation in recommending ER Health and Fitness - an extremely knowledgeable, professional, friendly and reliable team.
